I got mine in an outdoor pond. Hoped that it would grow faster and better with the sun and mosquito fish but they are only at 6" where I saw others got theirs to grow a lot bigger in a tank. Need to constantly buy small feeders. I got lazy and started to feed chopped frozen smelt which it accepts.
I got one in a trade he's a little guy under 3". I keep him in a 10 gallon tank with some dovii fry and and a small red tail barracuda about his same size. Mine eats live blackworms, live whiteworms and frozen brine shrimp. The bambusa is a feisty little guy the dovii fry stay away from him. But the redtail and him seem to get along good together for now.
they can be weaned off live food, they do grow much faster with live food though. can tolerate cold water, they're very peaceful, just predatory and grow huge!
