I had put a little baby banana plant in my bog a few months ago and when I pulled it out today I was shocked to see how long the roots are!
Here is a picture of the two little guys (white container) when I took them off the mother plant.

And here it is now!

The roots are nearly 3ft long!
This was the root system on the mother plant when I did my dividing.
It doesn’t even come close to the roots on the baby plant.

For anyone curious, this is a dwarf banana (Musa). They love water and I figured I could sacrifice a couple babies just to see if I can use them as bog plants. And I couldn’t be happier! I’ll definitely be putting more in my pond next year. I might also try to keep a baby or two in filters over the winter.
They aren’t the typical plant you’d see growing out of a tank filter, but I did have the baby inside for a couple months before it went into the pond. It did really good, but it’s growth exploded outside.
