so i have had two banjos now for about a month now, the only time i ever see them is when i dig them out of the sand to make sure there still kicking. my question is do they eat algae. i have a bad algae problem right now and one of the banjos is out and about going all over this algae, ans his stomach is full. i am amazed to see it even moving. or is he just that comfortable in the tank that he has decided to come out.

i don't think they will eat algea

also they don't move much if at all dureing the day but watch them at night

see this was in the middle of the day, sun shining bright, tanks lights on, he was just moving all over the place.

banjos usually tend to be scavengers and will eat almost anything, and will take it small fish if they get the chance. that being said they usually don't eat much alge, especially above the gravel. i usually feed mine shrimp pellets and watever frozen foods make it toward the bottom.

Banjo catfish are carnivores, mine seem to enjoy blood worms.they will not usualy eat other fish unless its a fry or small neon tetra. mine one never eats algea. the best time to feed a banjo is half an hour after the aquarium lights go of.
also snyder180 do not keep banjo catfish in a aquarium with gravel subsitutes as it will damage there barbles.

^^^ yup i agree...it must be sand as they love to burrow under the substrate so sand is much more safer than gravel which could harm its fins or rip the belly of its underside

i know that they like it under the sand, thats why i bought them. i also know that you almost never see them in the day time, and now both of mine have been active in the day. its just odd.
