I got this group of 9 a few months ago but never thought to make a thread on them as they are simple banjo catfish however I think I may have some potential breeding going on so I figured I’d document anything I can.

Here they are a few minutes ago

I just removed every other fish in the tank and I plan to put some black blasting sand in tomorrow and some fake plants and maybe some driftwood sticks.

tlindsey tlindsey I trust that you can see the two banjo catfish that are enlarged so do you think these are females? I believe they are and they are filled with eggs.

Wow only two females in a group of 9...that’s surprising!

I think there is a 3rd banjo that looks to be carrying eggs but is at the begging stages of it.

I would suggest you have two mature females, two immature females and 5 males.
the immature females are in my view the two on the right of the photo, both are laid in exactly the same arc (for identification).
You should find your females get larger both in size and length so will become easier to tell the difference.
I still think some of the ringed ones above are large males but time will tell.

Returning to the hobby and used to have a Banjo Catfish tank. Curious if you were able to successfully breed them or not.

I love these fellas, I have been after more for months now but am finding it hard, I have just cleared my tank out for a new pair of SA I have coming end of this week and my banjos been out loving life today

here’s a photo of him / her
