Has any one ever built a tank that doubled as a bar. I was thinking of raising the the tank some and then putting a sump under that and having the tank L shaped with the L being backward for a shelf on the back of the bar and a glass front and a glass top. Please let me know if you have done it and how it turned out.
Thanks

I have considered this idea, but I decided not to procede with it. The main reason is that it seems to be likely to cause too many problems- drinks on the tank can easily go in. Knees and feet too close to the tank can easily go in or create serious disturbances(depending on how rowdy your bar crowd gets). The secondary problem I saw was that it would have to be set too low for side viewing. This wouldn't be a problem if there were no glass sides. The top view would be nice at the bar however lighting would be an issue.
All of these problems are resolvable, but it didn't seem worthwhile to me to pursue. I hope you keep thsi thread going if you decide to build it. I would be curious to see how it works.

I want to try the idea, so if any one has any support ideas, please let me know and i will keep you posted about how i do. I am in the process of getting supplies and designing the tank.

You will be in good company. I once attended a wedding at "The Breakers" in Palm Beach FL., they had a bar that was L shaped and one end was maybe 6 feet and the other around 15 feet or so. It has been years, but it was impressive. It was saltwater at the time and they are right on the ocean. There was a small picture on their website but hard to see much. thebreakers.com look at their "The Seafood Bar".

Good luck with the project, post pictures so we can all get jealous!
