ok so ive had my silver for a month now and hes got great finnage...is starting 2 take hikari pellets and hes nice and thick.....the only problem is that 1 of his barbels is broken...i was wondering if i shuld cut it off sumhow..
i once saw a vid on arofanatics of a guy that put sum kind of treatment in the water 2 stun his asian aro while he cut its fins..

hope u guys understand:screwy: :screwy:

I dont think you should add anything to the water to try and "stun" your arowana. I have had a pretty big silver before and it used to lose scales in scraps with other fish and also used to damage his barbels when he was jumping and hit the top of the tank wrong. Everything always healed in a couple of days. I guess a bad injury to barbels could take a couple of weeks tops if its like a grow back thing. But yeah I am pretty sure you dont have to cut it off.

but 1 problem is that they have made no improvements watsoever...40% WC every 3 days...i dunno wat 2 do...i might sell and get a jar..any1 interested in an 8 in silver for 15 buks?

The barbel will grow back, might take a while though. Mine broke one, took almost 3 months to fully grow back.

why are barbels such a big deal??
everyone wants their fish to be perfect:) To me it's kind of like damaged fins, but I dont like one less if they have a few imperfections.

just having a perfect quality fish. not to say that lacking the barbells is a big deal. altho I do think they need them as a sensory device. I do like the look of an arro that has a good look including barbels because it all adds up to the quality of the fish as it grows.
Missing fins and various other parts is a constant reminder that your fish is not as "good" as it could be.

Sorry I couldn't pass on this one. It just makes me angry when people deal with fish the same way they deal with clothes...when there's something wrong with it, they discard it. I mean come on it's not a friggin disposable item.

Love the fish, care for them, give them everything they need...that's what fishkeepers do. Normally. I have had plenty of damaged fins/barbels/scales during my life of fishkeeping, and it never stopped any of my fish. Put some effort into it, and the fish will reward you. Barbels, like most parts of the fish, can regenerate. But that does not happen in 3 days !!!

I don't need my fish to be perfect. I only need them to be my fish.
