I just changed my tank to bare bottom..I have seen some picts. of bare bottom and thought screw it. I wanna try it.. Well it is funny my rays are slipping out and cannot get around as fast. Would this prohibit breeding? Just wonder if the male would still be able to catch the female? They just move so slow because of no traction.

they will get used to it and ajust
i don't think it will prohibit breeding if they want to breed they will
i prefer sand over barebottom thats me though

can't see how it would prohibit breeding.... mike(h2ocustomaquatics) his pools are all bare bottom and his rays breed

Most of ray breeders in Asia use bare bottoms, and the pups keep popin' out.
But to put the ray's feelings to consideration, I think they will be much happier with sand, especially babies.

Yes Bare bottom tanks are a lot better for breeding but to be honest....I just can't bring myself to do it. It reminds me of a pair of dogs in a concrete bottomed kennel or those crappy old zoos with chain link enclosures....
