Well looks like my Barred Midas male punked out the male Chancho and took his female. They both have their spawn dress now and are digging their spawning hole. Her tube is dropped. Might be a good mix Barred Midas x chancho. One beefy fish if the fry make it. Has anyone seen this cross before. At least they are both midas complex sp. Should be interesting.

....as feeders.

Split them up and work with the chancho pair. I admit to not understanding the appeal, but I would suspect that crossing species within the midas complex would be less "interesting" than the science experiment involving bringing a species from outside of the complex.

Havn't seen that mix but my Red iletas (female) has had several spawns with midas.Used them for feeders except a couple that hid out and made it.They just look like midas

Too bad your male Chancho didn't stand up, but what size tank are they in and what are the size differences between the males? I honestly don't see the intrest in mixing them, but might get some cool fry. Just cull most of the fry and only keep a few.

They are in my 300g. The chancho male is smaller than the barred midas. Midas is about 8in and the male chancho is about 6. When I ordered the chancho pair from Rapps, the male was smaller than the female. He has caught up to her and is now bigger than her but doesnt have the size to hold his own with the Barred midas. Good sized tank but i guess they are going to do their own thing. I doubt the fry will even hatch. I have 2 4 line pimodella cats and a bumblebee cat that are always on the prowl. IF they do make it they are just food for the masses. Personally I am not into the hybrid mixing species thing. Guess its just happens in a community tank.

I'm thinkin they'll look like Midas, maybe bigger than a Midas not quite as big as a Chancho. Kinda like crossing a Boxer with a Great Dane. Just a thought.

The male chancho is starting to make his way up the pecking order. The tank is pre dominant amphilophus. He has a 10in Labiatus and 11in female creamsicle midas that he has to dethrone. I guess once he puts on size. Plus my 9in male istlanum is a tough contender in there. There is also a 12in Oscar but he doesnt like to start anything. He breaks up fights though. The female chancho is nasty.
