Got two pairs of barred midas, the smaller pair 5 to 7 inches has a pinkish with dark stripes while the larger pair 6 - 8 inches is gray with dark stripes, my question is will the smaller pair loose their pinking hue as they grow ?

Pics? Where'd you get em from? Maybe....where were they, or their parents, collected from?

Agree with ragin, there are at least half dozen species and many location variants of barred Amphilophus, knowing which species/location variant would help.
Without that kind of info, its just a crap shoot.

I have two wild Managua barred Midas and they are shaped different and colors are similar but one with more yellow, and the other one with more red.

As an example (because barred midas is kind of a catch-all term)
below, Amphilophus sp Amarillo juvie

as an adult

now a young Ampilophus flaveolus

same flaveolus 3 months later
