my extra male bartoni above, about 2 years old, and maybe 5"
below, finally fished out this female beani from the tank it was born in, and dropped it into a divided 6ft tank, with a male on the other side.
some bocourti that share the tank with the above bartoni, and some Madagasi cichlids

and just for grins the new shoal of Etroplus canarensis.
They seem more like salt water reef fish the way the shoal and move.
May be because of their isolation from other cichlids in India has left them in an almost prehistoric (cichlidically speaking) than their other more widespread cousins.

Nice pics, Im loving the bartoni. Can we see a pic of the male beani?

The male went from pond a few weeks ago, to my basement pool. Now that the pool has dropped to about 50'F, he needed to come upstairs, and has been slowly acclimated to the warmer tank this afternoon, today's pics are not showing him at his best, and he's not too happy at the moment.
But here he is anyway.

and one as he was fished from the pond.

last spring before going into the pond

Beautiful triple B's with a comely C tossed in.

Male beani must be feeling a little less fragile today, he has decided to venture out a bit more from under his log.

can't blame him though, he went from a 1500gal pond with lots of leafy cover,
to a 500 gal pool in the basement, to a 6ft tank, which must feel pretty wimpy in comparison, and very exposed, with its 4 glass sides.

How were you even able to find him in the pond to fish him out it looks pretty murky?
