So I really want to do some real plants in the pond. I was looking on aquabid at the floating and pond plant sections.

Do you guys have any recommendations for me? Foot print is 8x6 and the water right now is 62 degrees. What do you think would look good and stay healthy? I want some surface cover too. I love how that looks.

Duckweed? i've seen that take over large outdoor ponds in a less than a month and that would definitely give you some surface cover, i have also read that it is a big time ammonia/nitrate killer. The only problem with that would be controlling it's growth, as I have seen it completely cover a 1 acre pond in a couple months.

I've heard similar stories that once you get duckweed in your tank your never going to get rid of it... some people love it and others who have it couldn't get rid of it fast enough..

duckweed is crazy.. its like the ninja of water plants. iver been trying to rid my 36gal of it for a few months now..i bet chuck norris would have a hard time with this stuff even! .....but yea, for those that like it, it most definitely will provide surface cover.

In my outdoor pond I go with water hyacinths and water lettuce. Very easy to maintain since you can just clip and toss what you don't want. They propagate through tubers, so if you want them to go faster you break the tubers and create more individual plants instead of one large floating mat. Hyacinths will also bloom. Parrot Feather is another good option.
Hope this helps.
I know you can at least find the Hyacinths on eBay.

Those hyacinths are sweet! Do you think they'll grow well in my basement with a plant light? And how about the cattails? Don't they need a lot of sun?

And thanks for everything so far everybody!
