Do any of you keep tanks in a basement with no sink? If so, what do you do for water changes?

both of my tanks are in the basement (180 gallon and 90 gallon). i have a sink in the laundry room to drain and fill the tanks and use a python. i can also drain my tanks by running a python to a sump in the corner of the basement-i just fit a fishnet ove the end that drains into the sump--to catch any sand that i might accidently suck up so it doesnt hurt the pump that drains the water in the sump.

my kitchen is also upstairs, and before i had the sink installed in the laundry room i ran a python to the sink upstairs-i bought another python and have both joined together so it was longer.

I tapped off the water main and instilled taps and a utility sink. Then I put a pump on the drain and pump the waste water to the sewer line. I have 12 tanks in my basement and could not do it without a sink

You could do either of those types of setups fairly easy and cheap. If you already have a basement sump pump I would just run it directly into that or out a window if possible.

If you dont have a sink in your basement and it isnt possible to install one then you will need a long python or you will need to do the old fire brigade and invite your friends over to get the bucket line going...

rubbermaid container
pump
hose

i have an opposite problem from you, but still the same

i have a tank in my bedroom which is on the 3rd floor of my house, and no sink. using a waterbed drain and fill kit ($10 from ebay) and a 50ft garden hose ($15) i can drain and fill using the bathroom sink on the second floor.

believe it or not, at full blast, your sink should have enough pressure to drain and fill a tank on a different floor. ive been doing this both with a real python, and the DIY version with the drain and fill kit for close to a year now without much issue.

i have the occasional syphon break for some reason, in which i just restart by mouth. still easier than running a bucket brigade

My garage is in the basement too, so I can just run a hose out that if I need to, and fill up with a long hose from up stairs.

My big tank is in the basement and the others should be down there within 6 months economy permiting. But I can reach the big tank from my kitchen sink with my python. So no big deal.
