What are some of the necessary equipment id need for owning a S.Ray ? I am really new..

i am talking about the whole package.

I am assuming you mean StingRay by S.Ray. First you need a large tank, in my opinion 72"x36" minimum for the smaller species and some males, 96"x48" for the larger females, 300 gallons or more. Second you need good filtration, there is allot of different options for filters, both DIY and professionally made ones, i would suggest spending some time in the filtration section of the forum. Personally I like pressurized sponge filters and bead filters with DIY bio ball towers. With rays heaters must be shielded, inline, or in a sump, rays will burn themselves on unshielded heaters in the tank. If your using sand you need to make sure its a sand that won't irritate the rays disk.

I am sure there are some other things but those are the big ones. People usually run into trouble keeping rays when they try to put them into small tanks or are lacking filtration.

Ok no offense but don't get rays. If you have no idea what you need you have no idea how to care for monster fish never mind rays. Do some research and then get back to us with specific questions

Ohh ok ok soo not to much then.. seems basic. I already have a real good filter and am planning on getting another one just to be safe. Im planning on getting something that basically looks like beach sand.. as natural as it can be

Not to offend you, but isnt that what he is doing by asking the question to make sure he gets the right stuff as well as on opinion from other ray owners.
I know he can read the stickys, but some people feel better also talking to other owners.
If he first gets an understanding of what he nees to set up a ray tank, then he can move to the next step and learn how to take care of one.

We need to understand, this forum is not only for us to chat about rays, but a good place for others to learn about them, ask questions if need be and get a better understanding about them. If asking questions is the best way for someone to learn what they need, thenId rather them ask questions instead of the not asking and doing something wrong and killing a ray.

Remember, we were all new at some point...

This site was a great place for me to start. I knew I wanted rays for years but did all my reading for about a year. Everyone needs a starting point.

I know when I first started my tank I was paranoid and had 4 filters running as I thought that 2 may fail....

I started with double of everything just in case I had a failure. Now as I buy new equipment I have more than enough. The first week have having my rays was the most stressful. Even thought I had cycled the tank with other fish I had a huge ammonia spike due to the amount of waste they produce compared to smaller fish.

My limited experience and please feel free to correct me...

2 x Heaters (1 in case of failure)
2 x Filters (yet again in case of failure)
I have Tahitian moon sand (CaribSea in my tank currently but have read that you don’t need it.
20% water change weekly is a good place to start mind you my first week to control levels I was doing 20% a day.
I would recommend a pump so you are not lifting water during water changes as it can get very tiring very quick.
Prime was the product I used to help get the water ready, they also have a stability product that is pretty good.

I am still very new and learning as I go but this was my experiance.
