Are there any basic supplies i should have just in case. i recently set up a tank and wanted to know what i should purchase say in case the fish gets sick or will get ich.

You should have a stock of meds on hand at all times. I keep melafix, pimafix, *prime, gel-tech arythromiacin, gel-tech penicillin, salt, and yes rid ich.......

*among other cheap dechlores for different projects.....

If you kept the tank conditions as you should be, there wouldnt be any ich. But it doesnt hurt to hav meds of hand. What Bigspizz listed are pretty much the essentials for almost every common infection and disease. Always keep melafix, pimafix, salt and dechlorinator on hand.

Also Binox, praziquantel, and metronidazole.

Your gonna scare the guy to death. I have salt. That's really it. And I've had salt for a long time and haven't had to use it.

Water change, water change, water change...

What about Dechlor?

All we have in the supply cabnet is salt and spare filter parts.

No need for declor or water treatments with our own tank water filtration system.

Our vets really good about making up a fresh batch of any meds we might need. I don't like the idea if meds laying around getting old.

Sounds expensive. Regular people should be prepared however. With your water system I would be suprised if your tanks ever got a disease.

We are not immune to picking up the odd fish here and there so we do have the occasional outbreak although in general all of our fish are healthy. We just don't belive in medicating if it can be avoided.

We really don't have as much money in the RO/DI system as people assume. All you need is a good working knowledge of the systems and a little time to shop and build it yourself.
