at wat size and age do male basilisks start showing there head and back crest that way i know if a basilisk i want to buy is male or female it will be when i get the new tank but i want to know how to sex 18-20" lizards

well, none in an indoor enclosure will ever get the magnificent crests that wild ones get, but there should be at 20" there should be a huge difference in size, girth, color.....

HPIZZLE has lifted a in fact very interesting and still poorly understood point about basilisk crests wich is still largely unknown but true, male basilisks even to they trive and live normaly in normal terrariums, they often develop beautifull crests but not the same breath taking crests wild ones do. My teory is that a combo of lack of sun ligth, lack of physical stimulus, incomplete diets and too close basking ligths are the culprids. Still have to experiment if in like a huge tropical green house I can obtain thouse beautifull male basilisk, well anyways like in most things reptile is question of size and not of age. As for sexing animals that size, unless they alredy show some early development it should be very hard, specialy considering basilisks dont have femoral pores.

could also be hormone induced by other males in the area which is my personal theory. if anyone ever finds out what the secret is i would deff get one of those even if its just a show lizard.

to the OP, im not to sure on the behavioral habbits of these lizards.

Have you done much reading on basilisks?

You keep asking and people answer but you don't seem to listen to anything they say.

I understand there is a lot of knowledgable people on this board but it seems you have done no research for your self. I know it is easier to just ask and hope some one has the answer but for the sake of the animals Please possibly start doing some of your own research and pay attention to what people have to say.

I don't mean to be mean but you ask the same questions repeatedly.
