Two of my monos are showing significant signs of breeding. My dominant male went from having a small green hump on his head to a buldging red hump over night. 1 of 2 dull looking females is now very vibrant. The vibrant female's belly is fat compared to the other bass who haven't eaten in a day. I'm pretty sure she is getting ready to lay eggs. Is there anything I can do to help create the perfect environment? I know a slate is necessary, but is there anything else I can do? Thank you for any help!

I ain't sure I would add anything to the tank , Wouldn't want to stress the fish

I wouldn't worry to much about creating "the perfect" enviroment because if the conditions wasn't right they wouldn't be showing signs of breeding , so Calm Down take a deep breath and keep us posted :)

Thank you for the advice. I wasn't really thinking add anything, but wondering if they needed an area in the tank of their own. My tank is pretty empty as far as deco but is occupied with many other fish. This is what brought on my concern, but whatever happens, happens.

There are many other peacock breeding videos online. Borrow them for ideas. You got the coolest cave like driftwood pieces I've seen. They may lay their eggs on those, but would try flat rocks such as this clip. Subdue lighting seems to be the ambiance of choice on many of those too. As for the aggressions, hmmm.... not sure. Presume they'd be territorial just like any other cichlid. Good luck!

Sounds like you are doing everything right. Watch and see what happens and keep us posted. You can look to improve the tank after you see how this turns out. Good luck!

Mine preferred the acrylic walls and bottom of my tank over anything else that was in the tank. If they are ready, they will find a place. Good luck!
