i was wondering if its possible to use a bathtub to replace the bottom glass of a 5'x2' tank (instead of say plywood) and silicone it. i'm not even sure if there's a bathtub with those measurements

what kind of bathtubs would be safe for fish?
i dont want to assume but i'd think silicone would work on most tubs.
im not looking to buy the tub, its if i find it for free, would this be doable? thoughts on this?

I put my fish in my bathtub only when i had to reseal my tank in emergency. If you do make sure the tub is cleaned very well make there is no soap or detergent left behind, or your fish will die.

Ur probably better off with wood/epoxy/fiberglass or a new piece of glass. Silicone does not stick well to tubs. Can u make it work? Probably, but itell end up being very flimsy and will most likely cause you more problems down the road.

I've only just resealed a tank(i'll have to find out if it still leaks in a day or so) and i've made a wooden stand(based on plans i found on the net). Im new to doing things myself and trying to gain some experience and confidence in doing so.

this is just an idea which would give me more gallons and a drain.
instead of a bathtub... maybe building one out of wood like a open top crate and the glass sitting/sealed ontop, has that been done before?
there are fiberglass tubs now maybe if i look out for one of those.
