I have a red bay snook at about 5 maybe 6 inches. Whats the approximate growth rate of these guys.

The reason I ask is because believe it or not I have a 4'' cuban that already destroyed a larger Synspilum and is harassing my new Snook that I picked up.

Basically I'm hoping the Snook will outgrow the Cuban and this will no longer be an issue.

They grow probably twice as fast as the cuban, but are pretty mellow.

thx but never mind, fish are psychic, a war broke out right after i started this thread. I moved the cuban to a different tank with the Midas where i have my oscar who is far larger than they are. Ofcourse the oscar started owning the Midas within the first 2 minutes so I had to move the oscar as well...... The snook and the oscar are together now..... hopefully they'll play nice.

That's a much better combination. That's a more level playing field as far as aggression. The snook will grow at about the same rate as your oscar- .5"-1" per month. At about a foot they really slow down, though.

I've heard they are meant to grow fast, but my two have hardly grown in the last two months, despite rich feedings.

I am thinking of adding more protein to the diet with some protein pellets and some fish flesh.

Thanks for the info, that growth rate is exactly the info i need. Much appreciated.

For big fish, Petenia are pretty mellow. Housing them with more aggressive fish will slow their growth (or result in their death).

Mine really like chunks of market shrimp, super worms and NLS pellets...

Males grow faster and larger than females. My male has been growing about 1/2" per month or so...the female less. They spawn about every two weeks.

I just got a pair in with my Oscars and they are getting along fine, so yours should have no problem. Unless you have a super mean O.
