What do you guys think is best sand or nothing and going with a bare bottom tank? i know it looks like crap having nothing but what will the rays be more happy with? nothing or a shallow sand bed?

also Driftwood? something they will become annoyed with? or will a nice show piece be ok?

Thanks for putting up with me and you guys knwo who you are!

I would have sand i believe it is better for the rays as they like to hide when frightened or stressed, it is also i good alarm bell when something is not right . Im sure this on going debate will be argued..As for the bogwood it depends on the size of the tank ,try and find a bit that doesnt cover much surface areas but is quite long like a branch..I find my ray enjoy blowing he sand from under my piece in search of a small peices of food..

rays have evolved to live in substrate so i think is best

a rays 1st defence is to cover itself in sand or gravel when scared with a bare bottom tank it wont be able to cover itself so it will go to its next line of defence and to sting

Check the stickied thread at the top of the forum and make your decision from there ;).

sticky or not, sometimes its nice to ask yourself rather then viewing another topic, and yes i can read, i just choose to start a thread on it is all. i think this forum is big enough to allow for one more topic on this, it is of importance to make sure one is providing the right conditions for there rays or any fish for that matter, even if it is meant to be asked more then once, i meant no disrespect by asking a simple question that is a debate with some people;)

thanks for thos who did reply!

i agree..which is why i did not close your thread ;)....i meant for you to peruse the already present thread that was stickied if you needed some quick feedback.

Joefish - your post is appreciated but DC just mentioned the sticky thread as it is a good
thread where all the pros and cons of the best substrate ( or lack of it ) for stingrays have been brought up.

Hes just trying to give you the best info at your fingertips at the fastest time possible.

I've had my ray on BB for a few weeks now with no complaints. I used to have him on gravel for about a week. His bottom side was pink from abrasion, so out it went. No complaints or regrets here!

for a starter with rays BB is best as it is the easiest to keep the tank clean and well maintained. If using sand make sure it is appropriate for rays and has no silica and is not made of anything sharp and is not too deep either.
The ray really won;t care about the lack of substrate and you will also be able to see from underneath the tank to make sure it is actually eating etc

There, straight from the og ray seller himself. I think all have their pros and cons and at
the end of the day, its all individual preference.

I prefer bb myself for the reason David stated and for simplicity.
