no where
Hi want to share one of my experience , I bought flower horn 10" he is beautiful the original owner was feed him pellet since I got him I tried to give him raw shrimp which is I thought it will give him more colorful he was eat like a pig until 2 days later he stopped eating and stomach is getting big I tried to heat up water and gave him medication but not enought he died in 1 week :(, still don't know what's problem maybe because of shrimp?

did you take the shell off the shrimp?

I've noticed that if you let an opportunistic feeder eat as much as they want they will make themselves sick. The worst I've had was an oscar that stopped eating for nearly a month.

Some times older fish cant handle there high amounts of protien that shrimp contains. Esp if they arnt used to it and then get a huge amount. It causes bloat. I'm sure thats what happend to him! Im sorry for your loss. Next time Try supplementing small amounts with the pellets he's used to. I use shrimp as treats to my cichlids and use it as a more staple for my cichla and catfish

X2, I didn't even think about that. Huge protein changes cause issues in pretty much all animals.

What does this have to do w/ it? I feed my rbp shelled shrimps 1x/week. Jw

rbp..not flowerhorn..maybe the tail didn't digest and got stuck..I have always read to feed shelled shrimp

A few things:

How much did you feed it? Where there left overs and did you clean it up? when the stomach got large what did his droppings look like? What kind of medicine did you give it? and what is the parameter of the water?

^ Why boil it? since even lightly cooking it will cause the shrimp to lose some nutrients...

I feed all my puffers (past and present) raw shrimp and never had a problem thus far...
