hi there, not sure if this is the right place or not, but ill just go for it:
I was walking along my local beach and i saw some good looking pebbles... like small rocks, and i was wondering, i read a while ago that it nice to put some rocks for decoration in your tank, and as im changing the tank to sand instead of gravel i thought what better than rocks from the sea (its a brackish water tank)... anyway to the point! can i just boil these a couple of times to sterilize (sp) them and then put them in my tank?
Also would some musscle shells look good to? thanks very much.

they should be ok

boil the shells extra though

not to hijack this thread but i just found three nice pieces of driftwood. how should i clean them? one looks a bit scorched to so will that be a problem? its not flaking off or anything.

BROWNFAN2634 do a search on this subject, there are some great posts reguarding driftwood.

Boiling should be fine as long it was not "oil-spill-toxic-dump beach" that you were walking on.

I see no reason not to use them, I have sea shells in my fresh tank, sea rocks ..

clean well, boil & enjoy your creation.

Keep an eye on your pH after you've added them. If you see any significant change, you may want to remove them. Some people test rocks they add to their tanks with lemon juice to see if it will alter pH, but from what I've heard that's kinda pointless unless it will REALLY mess up your water. Just keep a careful eye out for any changes.
