okay so i went to kailua beach and scooped up some of the clean sand near the "dune" area and now i wonder how the heck im gonna go about putting it into my fresh water tanks...

how would i neutralize this sand of its salt/salinity in order to make it safe for my freshwater monsters?

still got a bucket of sand sitting here... i think i will just pour it into the next guy's mailbox.

Just wash it well with fresh water mate and it will be fine.

That's the very spot that they had the raw sewage spill in early 2008!

All sand and gravel needs to washed to get rid of impurities.
Sewage is 98% water anyway and is easily washed away.
That sand has also been exposed to the elements for months also.
Wash it well and use it.

ahh. thank you.

now im paranoid. lol... do i just rinse it like rice in a rice pot?

test the sand by putting some sand in a smaller tank with some tester fishies

Shove a hose to the bottom of it, and turn it on slow. The flow of water will lift smaller particles, but leave the sand in the bucket.
