Beach sand set up

I have 2 bichirs and a large arowana. I'm going to put them into a new tank. I know bichirs work best with sand rather than gravel. Can I use sand from beach rather than bought sand? Beach sand would be dry sand not touched by water

That is not recommended because it has a high calcareous content. This will harden your water and many fish and plants dislike hard water.
