Hey guys, I recently bought a 125g tank used off craigslist. It came with everything except lighting. I was originally planning on doing a DIY LED lighting system, but from what I have seen they are really expensive and don't really make sense for my needs. I will not be growing plants or corals or anything, just want to see my fish.

So, after more research and looking I found these: http://www.aquatraders.com/LED-Ligh....htm?searching=Y&sort=7&cat=22&show=90&page=1

Basically my question is what size do I need to get and what type? Will 2 x 24-36" fixtures work, or should I opt for 2 x 36-48"? Would the single bright suffice for a 23" deep tank (from my measurement) or do I need the double/reef bright? I would like my lighting to be pretty natural looking, unlike the bluish light given off by my T5HO on my other 125g (I know you can change the bulbs to get different effects).

Thanks for any input and help. Also, any pics/videos would be awesome!!!

if all you want is to see your fish then use light domes for lizards and house lights it looks nice and is very cost effective

Wouldn't that create more of specific beams of light entering the tank, rather than just the normal flood of light? I'm not a huge fan of the beams, which is another reason I am leaning towards the freshwater version of the beamswork lights. Also, by the time you buy at least 4 light domes and electricity saving bulbs (another reason I'm switching to LED) you will be reaching $50+. Maybe the domes are cheaper online, but from my experience and what I have read (my wife has a turtle tank and uses two of those domes) they don't work reliably.

Or maybe I am misunderstanding you...

I'm ordering 2x48" for my 6' 220g. 2x36" would work for your 125, but if you want it a little brighter get the 48"and and overlap them. Get the single bright

220 is 72 x 24 x 30 high

They're the same thing, different sellers. I own 3 of the ones you're looking at and I'm very happy with them. 1 of the 3 foot lights will cover an area approx. 5 foot wide on a 30" deep tank. Also, a 3 footer will cover a 4 foot long tank thats 20" deep with ease.

This is my 165 bowfront with 2 36" beamworks rweef bright lights. 72X18x24D 24" bow in the middle

Thanks for that clarification scott m, and your input.

Also, thanks Jim A, that is a nice looking tank. You have some of the coning that is usually associated with the reef brights. It's not a bad look at all, but I want to try and avoid if possible. Just my preference.

So, I am thinking 2 x 36" freshwater should do the job. Still would love your input though because I probably won't order for a few weeks.
