My beanis sort of stopped eating this week. Ive had them for a month and they were eating like pigs and growing like weeds. Now they are indifferent when foods are presented. It took them 3 weeks but they gradually killed off and ate 40 black neons and 10 red eye tetras that were leftover from the geo community tank that I was keeping before. Even when the tetras were being picked off they continued to eat hikari cichlid gold, as well as crushed up algea wafers., but mostly the latter. Im not so sure that its bloat because there is no swelling of the abdomens at all, but at the same rate they dont look emaciated and continue to remain pretty active and look really healthy with great color and disposition. They are ay 4''+ now and all of the tetras they offed were at least half their size or more at the time.... Im just a little baffled at this and was wondering if any of you all had the same experiences with your beanis?? Do their metabolisms slow down with the changing of the seasons?? (wishful thinking..) Any help will be greatly appreciated as you all know.....

How often do you feed them? I try not to feed everyday and I also avoid feeding them at night time. I usually feed my fishes in the morning. I also don't feed them after a big water change. I would wait a day before I introduce food again.

What's the temperature of the water? I know it got cold last week.

Stomach swelling does not show until after a few days. If they continue not to eat and become lethargic, I would start medicating the tank. I'm not an expert on this but I've had success with liquid prazi.

Sorry to here they are giving you trouble. The only fish that I have had do this are discus that had parasites and EBJD's. The discus always seem to recover after a prazi treatment but it takes them a while to start back eating. If they are young it will often stunt them. The EBJD's all die when this happens. Usually takes 4-6 days for them to croke. Never kept beani so hopefully they will straighten up and start eating.

I second all the below advice. Go with Prazipro. Dont feed for a few days, also and see if appetite returns. It may be a parasite or just maybe finickey after the live foods, which could have introduced a parasite.
