I have a Beani, and feed him Hikari gold Pellets, what should I feed him? He is eating the pellets and doing well, but what should I be feeding him, and what should I not feed him. I don't want him to bloat, he is about 5", in the 360 gallon with a divider, sharing the tank with a pair of Grammodes. He can see them of course, but the tank is divided. He is looking good and I want to keep him that way. Any advice that you can give me, I would appreciate. Can I feed him earth worms occassionaly or should I stay away from that? What should I keep his temperature at? I will eventually give him the 360 gallon without the divider moving the grammodes to a 100 gallon tank, would it be ok to add about 5 or 6 Red Jewels to the 360 tank with the Beani?

I've never had a beani before, but I've raised a Haitiensis which is know to bloat. To me high protein diet is not the main cause of bloat. Since I got my haitiensis, i fed him a variety of food, his favorite is massivore delite. I think if you provide him with a variety of food, clean water, and a low stressfully... you will have a very healthy adults soon in enough. Good luck!

At that size, the bloat issue may be less likely. Similar to the haits and blue labridens, it seems to happen as grow-outs. I agree with the prior post - I think its less about diet and more about the stress re: the tank environment and conditions. I have a group of 10 beani together with a mountain of pvc hiding spots and no sign of bloating. I experienced the same with haits. I lost 5 of my blue labs due to stress bloat and I could explain it away as stress vs. diet related.

Thanks for all the advice given I will follow directions and see how he turns out :)
