There are still the 12 I started with, living together, I am a bit surprised, but the temp is kept in the high 60s and low 70s, maybe that has kept aggression down. With summer heat rising, that may change.
There seem to be 3 females that have divided the tank into 3 sections
, the males just constantly cruise midwater, although the largest, with the most prominent hump moves moves lower in the tank, enjoys the company of all 3 females, and eats the most with impunity.
Looks like they are developing nicely especially that male. Interesting how some of those smaller ones color up a little like bartoni?? Beani are definitely on my wish list.
I agree about the similarity to bartoni. Easy to see at some time in history they must have evolved from the same ancestor.
Below a pic of a small bartoni next to a carpintus, 1 of 6 bartoni I acquired at the gcca classic last month. Haven't quite learned to shoot a decent pic yet, of the bartoni though.
