Crushed walnut has sharp edges and has been known to shred the insides of poeples animals. I would say washed playsand would be your best bet.

I saw a thread on a reptile forum where a guy was keeping his on dirt with some sand like he kept his monitors and said his beardies seemed to love it.

I have mine on reptibark. hes an adult and not a moron so I don't worry about him injestingit. the pieces are too small to not pass through him anyway. that and I feed him in a blue bowl and he knows that the foods always in that bowl.

I've heard bad stories about sand thats why I avoided it but I suppose theres a good chance that nothing bad would evr come from using sand with an adult.
