Bearded Dragon Tail Rot - HELP

Hello,

Our dragon is about 7 months old and just completed a shedding. I noticed that the last 2 inches of her tail is rigid and discolored, dark brown. It appears to be tail rot. I don't think anything crushed or damaged the tail and suspect it is excess shedding. I read about that in a manual that I have and it states to use Hydrogen Peroxide to dip the tail in the solution.

Any other suggestions or is that the best way???? Any help is greatly appreciated.

also she does not show any ill effects of this and is eating real well

It looks like it may be excess skin, but I cannot tell for sure. This is my first dragon and I have no experience with them.

Any other responses is helpful
 
Agreed on the excess skin on the tail.

What happens is when skin is retained on the tail, it restricts blood flow to that part of the tail and the tissue begins to die off.

Good news is that BDs do fine w/o the tips of their tails, but the bad news is that you dragon is now at risk for infection, which could be fatal.

If you don't already have your dragon on paper towels or newspaper, put him on it now. This is the only way to keep the cage clean enough to steer off any possible infection. Once the tail either heals or falls off and heals, you can go back to using a loose substrate. Keep an eye on it and pay attention to any changes in behavior or diet. I'd also research a good herp vet in your area should you need to get good medical attention.

Good advice, I have had her in sand but will take care of changing the subtrate.

Do I need to use the Hydrogen Peroxide of not??
