Ima build something about 100 gallons maybe. A 5 ft x 3 ft x 2 ft layout or so. Fixing to look on craigslist for free glass to see what's avalible and go from that. Probably calcium sand when its a yr old or a foot long and some rocks and cave the rest open space to move around if need be
75 gallon, slate tile for substrate, magnetic basking ledge, MVB for heat/uv, full size water bowl to soak in, vines on back side of cage to climb, and a hut to hide in
Ummm can't get on photobucket right now to load a pic...I will in a bit
Sounds nice. I thought about buying a small hob filter and putting in a small area that has water circulation to it to drink/swim in. And have the water come down a rock or something back into the "pond". Would have to install a fan right above it though to get rid of any humidity issue with that. I think it'd be neat and should be fun for the dragon(s)
Don't bother with that waterfall/ pond idea. I've seen boa enclosures with waterfalls and never liked them for one reason. The water should be changed daily; and the container disinfected periodically.
The more complicated it is for anyone to clean anything, the less likely they are to do it. Dragons are poop machines, that is why people use linoleum and tile for substrate. The three I have drive me insane, and I use tile and newspaper. If you built a waterfall or pond they would immediately soil the water; the pathogens would proliferate soon thereafter. Disinfecting a water structure would soon become a chore. Besides all of that, you do not want a humid environment for those lizards, fan or not why go through the hassle?
Well that sucks I figured it'd be bad ass but if they just gonna use it as a toilet then forget it. I'm glad I checked back I was fixin to start the build today and cut a slot in one side for the hob filter and waterfall. I had planned on sand substrate. Thinkin that it would work like cat liter or something and just scoop the poop and urine out. I got a million ideas but some would be a pain. I.e. the waterfall. I still want to build a decent size enclosure though so it will have room to do whatever and if I ever find a bad ass germant giant then it would still be able to use the enclosure with comfort even if it hits 3 ft long. Ahh a tamed 3 ft lizard. Take that to petsmart on a leash. All the people be like WTF!
