I recently acquired a pair of convicts that successfully mated 2 weeks ago. i have had them for around a month. The person i got tem from had them for 4 years with no problems. And until today there was no problems at my house ether. i came home to find the female with missing scales and ragged fins and she can not keep her equilibrium. So i immediately moved her to a QT tank by her self and i am treating her with maracyn for any infection and some salt to relieve some of the stress and i have the temp at 78-80 degrees. MY water parameters are 0 ammonia 0 nitrite and 20ppm nitrate. And the QT tank is the same but with less nitrate of around 10-15ppm. Is there anything else that I can do to help this fish. Or should i put her out of her misery.

Wait awhile. If you see the fish losing it like its doing down to die, then perhaps thats when you should do soemthing like that. But for now, give it a chance to heal up. Convicts do fight eachother, Convicts are known wife beaters, but it goes the other way around sometimes too. After shes healed up and you wanna try putting them back together, try getting a dither fish in there to help with a problem like this.

Thanks for the advice but she did not make it. i will keep your advice for the next female.
