I just got home from work, where someone wanted to know how to help their sick oscar. They said they treated him with ick killer. He is supposedly about 4" long and they had him for a few months. They said he had stuff all on his body, so I asked if it was little white dots, they said no. I asked if was holes in the head area, tehy said no, it was like grey stuff growing on his body.
Then I asked tank size. They said 10g.
When people argue about tank size for an oscar and say minnimum is 75g, I get frustrated. They havn't worked in a petstore. Minnimum is not good, minnimum is:
Main Entry: min·i·mum
Pronunciation: 'mi-n&-m&m
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural min·i·ma /-n&-m& /; or -i·mums
Etymology: Latin, neuter of minimus smallest; akin to Latin minor smaller -- more at MINOR
1 : the least quantity assignable, admissible, or possible
Any 12" fish would be HAPPY to live in a 55. Sure, a 75 isten times better. But even a 14" fish can live in a 55g, they can still turn around, trust me.
A 55g is better than a 10. It is better than a 20L. It is better than a 29, 30 hex, or 40 breeder.
These are where MOST potentially 12" fish wind up, so any fish is LUCKY to wind up in a 55.
Besides, if someone really likes their fish, they might upgrade to a bigger tank.

Anyway, I told that guy to raise the temp to 83, add lower the water level for extra 02, and do daily water changes with added salt until the oscar gets better. Is he gonna get a bigger tank? Probably not.
