Hmm. Looks like my camera doesn't capture her blues. Her lower fins are royal blue and she has an iridescent green alongside the orange

Very nice convict. Capturing the true colors of your fish can be tricky. Of course the best way is a good camera. Lighting matters too.

What's the best way to capture decent pictures with only an iPhone camera? I'm not looking to dabble in aquatic photography... at least not yet but I'd love to be able to snap some beauties of my wet pets.

It can sometimes help to shoot at night, turn off all the lights in the room and leave just the tank lights on. Try experimenting with different lighting conditions.

The "humble" convict cichlid is fast becoming one of my very favorites, along with the firemouth. I am a cheap date. ;) But there's nothing humble about a female convict who is advertising her readiness to spawn and lit up like the Vegas strip. Their colors can be amazing. One of mine has a ton of blue in her fins as well. Beautiful little fish. Great mama, too. Unfortunately she beats the snot out of her much larger mate when he makes a parenting decision she disagrees with. He's a bit afraid of the missus, who definitely wears the proverbial pants in that relationship.

I hope you enjoy the little rascals as much as I do!
