'The Sun' is a tabloid.

Also, the resolution is not good with aerial photography when zoomed in. There is no way you can tell quality of fish or anything like that. If there are lot of koi in a pond then maybe you can see them in there, but thats all.

yeah the resolution is crap but it does give enough info to find if they have a pond/nice car/bike etc, and an escape route should they need it. there is no way its good enough to see individual fish though like krzr3000 said.
although google maps has given me a look at where my new house is situated on its street and i can see how large the garden is. so some good has come of it.

How old are those pictures? Usually they're out of date by a couple of years.

HAHA so dumb, i had herd that a small British town chased a Google streets car out of their small town because of recent break ins in the town. People are willing to blame technology for anything

yes and here it is http://technology.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/tech_and_web/article6022902.ece
the pics are out of date by at least a few months when they can be viewed but people generally leave gardens alone for long periods of time and rarely totally shuffle the layout making it a ready made recce for thieves.

when i view my house using the satellite view i can see enough to make a valid plan of attack/thievery without setting foot outside the property, if you look at a random street you can do the same. i think its a tad scary to be able to target a house and recce it from your own home. so i think this technology has the potential to prove menacing in the wrong hands. its only saving grace in my eyes is that its not real time.

its also a bit odd that this amazing technology's upgrade, streetview, has only one person who has used the opt out option. if you dont already know then its google own chief exec. if its that great and poses no threat to peoples homes/privacy then why has he opted out.

I've never seen a picture so clear or detailed using Google Earth or Maps.

Unless you have a huge pond over 20k gallons you're not seeing it clearly.

You can see clearly the pool only because of the blue tint but your pond won't be blue and if anything it's going to be rare event to steal the fish anyway. It wouldn't surprise me if it's someone that knows the owners.
