Two days ago, I removed all of the carbon from my tank and now my nitrite is over 2.0! This will cycle out soon enough, am I correct, or did I throw the balance of the tank off for good? I am soon going to be adding a Magnum 350 to the tank to held my two Penguin 350s. Also shocking was nitrite at 30 ppm, when it is usually 0. This should be fixed soon, because the Purigen was just recharged and last time it brought it down from 40 ppm to 0 ppm. Should I worry about the nitrites? They will drop soon I am hoping, am I correct?

by removing the carbon you probably removed a portion of the nitrifying bacteria, but dont worry new colonys will grow soon enough.

dude 30ppms of nitrite???

you sure its not nitrate?

I meant to say nitrate. The nitrite is at 1 ppm.

No worries now, Ammomia is at 0, nitrate is at 5, and nitrite is at .25. Everything is good and I gave them all a nice meal of krill, algae, and pellets. They went nuts and the scat loves the rocks I added.

u need to stuff some 1$ store scrubies in wherever the carbon came out in a week or so the tank will cycle when the new bacteria is estabilshed and it will be all good.lol
