Okay some questions for jardini owners.

I finally got a Jardini about three weeks ago after admiring pics of them for years...

He's about five or six inches long and I'm beginning not to like him anymore. He does NOTHING but HIDE. He's in a 55 (just for now of course) with a juv. peacock bass (about 3").

There is TONS of cover in the tank (driftwood, rocks, artificial plants), I keep the lighting dim (like 30 watts). I haven't seen any aggresion for the PBass or any edvidence of aggression. The water is perfect...0 Ammonia O Nitrite <20 ppm Nirate, 80 degrees F

UNFORTUNATELY - I am feeding him exclusively on rosies (GASP!)(because of the PBass). When the PBass gains another inch or so he'll be moving to a new tank, and then I will start converting the Jar to pellets and krill. I have only seen him eat a couple times, and only at night. He is plump and growing, btw.

One more thing...when I got him he was a silver/gray color, now he is almost BLACK (the back of the tank is painted black so he's invisible now...retarded).

SOOOOOOOOoooooo...thats the info I've got, is this reclusive nature normal for little jars? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

yea thats kinda standard, they change color to camo with background, and are recluse when bullied or fell threatened... just cos u feed the bass rosies what stops you feeding the jar prawns??? will color up a lot better and lower the risk of death... thou watch that combo, bass grow fast and will kill that jar in a sec when it can... beleave me it happened recent when i thought there was 100% chance it wouldn't... Neva under estimate bass!!

I've actually tried throwing the Jar a lot of alternative foods...but it won't come out of the corner so... :)

Thanks for the advice...yeah like I said the bass will be moving out very soon. Then mabye the jar will be a little more exploratory!

Sometimes it just takes a while, it was probably 4-5 weeks for my black aro to get adjusted.

it will take awhile for some aro's to acclimatise with there new surroundings.
try adding a little black water extract that may help

awesome...thanks for the advice...I'll dim the lights, remove the bass and wait and see!

give it time..one thing jars are not, is disappointing....
