Beef heart is usually sold and can be bought in a frozen cube bought at most lfs or in a flake food. Its meant to make fry grow fast and fish get in breeding mode. But as with any mammal meat its not recommended. There are plenty of healthier alternatives that will be more beneficial for your fish.

As per your question any fish will and can eat.

I guess most fish will eat it if given in the right size.I have heard of hobbyists using it since years ago but I have never tried it for my fish, never seen the point...especially since it has been said that mammal based food is not ideal for our fish.I think it comes in frozen blocks kind of like bloodworms.

You can get a fresh beef heart at the store (ask the butcher) and then cut and freeze it in large chunks. Smaller fish can be fed by using a grater (the one that is used to grate blocks of cheese). I suggest skipping beef heart however. It's very high in fat (30%+) and that much fat is not healthy for fish. Even ignoring the fat, the flesh is different from fish, insect and invertebrate flesh, so fish aren't necessarily able to digest it properly.

Things like cod, squid, pollack, salmon are just a few of the many better options.

beef heart is common for people who keeps discus. they normally buy beef hearts at the market. chop them up and use other ingredients added on and grind it all up freeze it and feed it to their discus in cubes. i personally hate it cuz its super messy. if u want protein go with blackworms

I get sliced defatted beefheart from the butcher...been feeding my fish ( CA/SA cichlids) for years, no ill effects except faster growth rates.. You can also feed 99% fat free ground turkey breast..all I add is freshly ground garlic and feed

I use to cut and freeze my own beefheart (BH)/raw shrimp/brine shrimp frozen mix when I was growing out discus juvies. And I've seen just BH cubes for sale at petsmart for about $5 a tray in the frozen food freezer by the fish dept. But it was more cost effective to make my own. The reason people usually use BH is because it has a very high amount of protien that is used to grow out fish, fast. When I was growing out my discus I was feeding 4-6 times a day and doing about a 90% w/c every other day. BF can foul up your water pretty fast so more w/c's are a must.............

Thanks guys, theres some real good info here, my intent was to feed as a treat to some CA cichlids, clarias , s.euruptus and a spotted dora. But as i can only get it at the butchers, and iv just found out how big beefhearts are, i think ill leave it,
