I had a thread a while back asking if anyone had fed beefheart to rays. Well I tried it tonight and I will have to say the rays absolutely loved it. I fed it straight without soaking it in anything and they ate every piece of it. Just posting this to give one other option of food to feed your rays. I have fed leeches as well and they like them to.

When you say soaking... what do you mean? Soaking in what? I have a 3 retics and they will not touch the beefheart that I make for my Discus. Perhaps it's the ingredients.

The best way to get rays to change foods is to take some of the new food and mix it in a bowl with the food they currently eat. When you feed it to them and they taste some of the old food on the new they will eat it and eventually recognize the new food as food. Doesn't always work the first time and sometimes requires starving the rays.

When I was breeding discus and ray's a while back I used a beef heart MIX.

I wouldn't suggest feeding straight beef heart to anything that's more than 6 months old due to it's huge protein content - there is a lot of debate over feeding mammals to fish as well that I'll stay out of.

Anyway - if you want somthing a bit more healthy, just get 2 parts shrimp to 1 part beef heart and mix in some high quality flake/pellet food - throw it all in a blender and freeze it into cubes. :)
