Beefing up the 60g

Ok Im really getting into plants now.... So im looking to Up my 60G... First all fish will be removed, the tank will be Cleaned with CRL.... Really old tank the Cross brace is white from the water but the tank is still good. So pass all that... Im looking into Co2 tanks and all that fun stuff.. the problem is im looking for a medium plant tank.... So i dont really want to go crazy on the lights... So right now i have one strip light which i think is 40watts... So where can i upgrade? Im going to be making a new Canopy top for the tank... i want to know can i just put 4 rows of t5's inside my tank? I think this might be cheaper cuz i have a load of them. I just have to buy fish tank bulbs. So will added 2 more row of lights at 40ish watts help me keep plants that need a stronger light? Or should i just go out and get a 200 dollar already done lights?

One more thing will the cross brace block light from hitting plants or it wont matter cuz it be clean and clear again?
 
For lighting, if you just want medium lighting, a couple CF bulbs, or a couple T12s will do more than adequately. As far as the plants are concerned, they will have to be purchased with the lighting in mind. No high light plants. If you go with the 4 HO T5 bulbs, then you will most certainly need co2, and it will be considered high lighting. T5s are great lights, and put out a ton of light.
 
Yes I'm slowly reading about the lights needed for plant tanks.... What will happen to Low light plants and mid plants if i went with a high light level? And the same for if i went with mid light set up and so what will happen to the high level plants? will they just grow SLOW? or will the Co2 let me grow at an ok rate but not the best?

WyldFya where did u get your t5HO from? I'm thinking your in a different country then me so i thought i just ask.
 
Most low light plants will do fine under high lighting, and will grow much faster. High light plants will not work backwards though, and will generally die off under sub-par lighting. Co2 will help the plants grow faster, and compete better for nutrients, but will not aid a high light plant in inadequate lighting levels.

As far as country, apparently you don't know where Idaho is... it is a part of the union, which is where you live. :thumbsup:
 
Oh i .... DUH i just saw Moscow... lol my bad. So a high lights plant in a mid light set up will die? or just grow really slow? If Co2 is added and nutrients (Gravel, liquid, tabs)

Do u have a good site that ship set up? I wanna work from Bulb backwords... I think cuz i can find the bulbs i wanna use but i dont know about ballast and the rest... I can wire so im good there... I just need to know how to match the ballast to the bulb or that part

Uh lol my brother just told me i can put higher watts in my set up.... damn box! it says use 32 but that mini... this knowing how many lights can i run off one ballast?
 
I personally would recommend just running the Hagen glo lights. They are good and cheap. If you are interested, I can sell you a dual 48" HO T5 retro setup (ballast, pre-wired, endcaps, reflectors, bulb clips, reflector mounts. The hagen lights are now being sold at Petsmart apparently, so finding them shouldn't be a problem.

Can i get some more info on that? send me some pic... and a price. can it be installed into a canopy?

Oh once i clean the brace will it be a problem with the light or they dont really block light?

If i run one CO2 Diffuser on one side of the 40g tank... will the co2 level be the same on each side? Or should i run 2 Diffusers?

Or How should i go about getting a good flow around the tank.... Still have to move the fish out and clean the tank top brace....

I have gravel 100lbs mix of flourite.
Still waiting one lights and Co2 set up Going with 20lbs with a cheap Reg.

What does the SOLENOID do?
