I need some help. Currently I have a 59"x29.5" table that I use for a computer desk. The table is from Ikea and is only rated for 100 pounds.

Here is the table:

I want to build a much more solid version sized 59"x36" from scratch. On one end I want to setup a Mr. Aqua 12 gallon long. How would I go about making the table strong enough to handle that kind of weight? I am fairly handy, but I need a plan to go off of.

I figured I could pick up a sheet of birch plywood for the top. Build a frame out of 2x4 for the base. But what about the legs?

Just build a stand it would be easier.

I don't really have room for a stand. I have a 60" piece of wall. Do you mean build a stand in conjunction with a desk?

The way the room is laid out, there is not any more open wall space.

If you are just going to put aquarium on old computer table it would be best to buld stand according to size of aquarium length and width.

I want to build a NEW desk. Sorry if my post was not clear. I posted the old desk just for reference.

12 gallons is roughly 120 pounds. Does not seem like it would be too crazy to build a table to support that.

Ok now I get it yes you could beef up the table with 2×4's like you stated earlier. I apologize for the misunderstanding.

Any ideas on how to make a nice looking "beefy" table? I'm mainly concerned about the legs.

Thats a nice looking table but honestly I would just add 2×4 legs on all 4 corners. I would also suggest going on youtube and maybe you can get ideas from the vids.
