Well anyways! I have been fishing at alot of small lakes/ponds. And all I have been catching are something I can't ID, today I did http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi. Those buggers..It says they take over a pond very fast. I went to my grandparents pond today on a farm(Central Illinois) and that's all that is left in the pond, besides some catfish and smaller bass. I read up and it says these Green Sunfish out compete bass because of their larger mouth. Does anyone know how I could clear these guys out and get pure-bred bluegill in there? My guess is that my grandpa stocked it at one point through the years and there were a few Green Sunfish stuck in the stock tank. These guys get alot smaller then bluegill and it's pissing me off. Anyone?

only surefire way to do it would be to shock the pond pretty much. even if you catch every fish out of it there will still be juvies too small to catch in there somewhere. they've been a pretty big problem in some larger areas of water

Yes...It's all my 5 other fishing buddies are catching and me. We are seeing hardly any more true bluegills anymore. But I told them all to throw them on the bank or eat them. And the "eat them" will probably be used the most. It's just like the Asian Carp in the Illinois River....

not quite that extreme, the asian carp are pretty ridiculous. may as well eat em if they're good sized, green sunfish still taste just as good as other panfish

Ya..and it's making the LMB smaller also because they take most of the food. The water was clear at my grandparents and there was a ton of fingerlings of the Green Sunfish.

i mean if i were you id just go out there catch and put on ice as many as you can possibly catch, you probably wont wipe em out entirely and even if you did it would take a few years for the pond to be back to normal, but at least it will be satisfying and delicious :P

i use to go to a pay to fish place guy had alot of ponds. he said if he was ever to do it again he would never put panfish bluegills sunnys what ever in a pond again. Said he would take a saine net and walk threw pond only way to remove them. but i woud go buy some cheap fish pellets and start throwing a couple handfulls in the pond every day at the same time. once they get use to the feeding. use a throw net and catch them remove exc.

Or put a couple of snakeheads in on the pond and your green buggers problem is resolved. Just kidding...but it will work.
