I took my plastic to the 'Focus on Imaging' Show at Birmingham on Sunday. I came back with a Gary Fong Lightsphere (not usually available in the UK), a Lowepro backpack, a bargain tripod head, a carbon fibre monopod, a spare Nikon EN-EL3e battery, a 4GB card, a Nikon 1.4x converter, another nice Op-tech camera strap and a D300 to attach the strap to ;)

It was exactly 12 months ago that I bought my D200, which will now be relegated to reserve body/habitat shot status. It's given me a lot of fun; but I think the D300 will let me do more and better photography. For example, I hope that the D300's better high ISO performance will allow me to use the converter with my 300mm to get better bird shots (sorry Andreas). I can't wait to try it out this weekend.

I took some photos of the show, which I have put into a 3-part blog. If you ever get the chance to visit a show like this, I can recommend it (and not just for the special deals on kit).

Ha ha, stocking up I see. Lightsphere is great, I used to use mine all the time, before I got a RSS bracket system. It does work.

You made a great score Alan. Congrats on the new toys. I would have grabbed up the D300 too. And I have had my D200 for a lot less time than you.

Go bird guy...go:exclaim:;)

Congrats on the recent acquisition Alan!! I've heard nothing but raving reviews about the D300. Looking foward to your new pictures soon.

Cheers,

Thank you, guys. I've been so busy this week that it took me a few days to announce this to the world and to put the photos up in the blogs. Now I'm charging up a battery and getting ready to open the D300's box :-D
I'm going to try to work out a custom setting that I like, which means that I'll have to try to use Capture NX to download the photos into my PC. I hope I can live with these new learning curves.
Watch this space . . . .

Black rhino, 300mm & TC-14.
The photography was OK. I think processing the images will be more of a challenge. I haven't got very far with Capture NX yet.

The first shot looks soo realistic Alan. I think the details are excellent and shadowless exposure is great too. And your desired modest contrast looks better than normal. I think your new equipment is going to serve you well.;)

Why do they call a white animal black?
