How do you feed captive lamprey, do you literally put a big fish in there for them to suck on? Or is there a special pellet?

I'm not planning on owning them just curious

Does anyone even have a lamprey I don't think I've ever seen one in a tank

I've never seen one in the Seattle aquarium. I suppose I could have missed it though. I usually go there 2 times per year. I guess it would be interesting but I would hate to see it get loose like it did else where. They are not indigenous but the little suckers sure are prolific.

I have family out there and my aunt said they had em but it was probably about 5 years ago not sure I just remember her talking about it and showing me pics, it might have been some kind of temp exhibit I doubt they would want them there all the time if I was the head guy there I wouldn't haha

I would imagine people have kept them for scientific purpose, to study such an ancient fish

I remember I went to an aquarium a long time ago and they had a whole bunch of hagfish and they just put dead whole fish in to feed them. They're not lampreys but they're pretty similar.

Wow watching that would make my skin crawl haha some fish are just too weird.. ugh imagine turning the corner and seeing a bunch of lamprey sucking on a big dead fish (or alive :l) in a dark aquarium. I'd walk away so fast haha

Parasitic lamprey- feed them live fish, freshly killed fish, thawed frozen fish, or freshly chopped beef heart.

Non- Parasitic lamprey- microorganisms or brewer's yeast

There have been few incidents of parasitic lampreys scavenging on dead fish. Not common behavior but they do scavenging.
