These are before and after shots of one of my Red/Orange heads that stands out from the rest of the group...even the dominate doesn't look as nice as this male. After changing to a bigger tank with a tan-ish color sand the results shows. He claims half of the tank to himself while being the smallest of the four i have and even gets aggressive with the dominate male who is about 4+ inches. The last two picture was when he was 2.5 inches in black sand. And now at around 3+ inches looks much better with the orange scales on its body and the head starting to color up. I hope he breed with the one possible female i have left after getting bigger.

Hey does anyone know anything about pair behavoirs?? Such as how they pair up because my dominate male is getting very attach to this assume female. He never chases her away but more like allow her to follow him at times. So far no eggs since the flat piece of rock is in the territory of this juvie male and he wont give it up. They chase everyone else away and flare at each other from time to time. tell me what you guys think or experience with this.

Nice fish, any full tank shots?

That looks like early pairing behavior to me. I have 8 OH's in my 240g and have 2 pairs that have laid eggs and 1 other pair in courtship.

my dominate male cleaned up a nest spot and chased everyone away except one female, which would stop by and quiver then swim off. a few days later they we both huddled in the nest spot with eggs on a piece of driftwood. day later the male had a mouthful of eggs. about 6 days later both parents had a mouthful of either eggs or wigglers (couldn't tell both mouths were sealed shut) then a few days later a seen small fry popping in and out of both parents mouths. next day the tankmates must of had a fish fry cause both parents mouths were empty. hope this helps
