i am looking to get a flower horn to keep in a 55 gal or until i get my 75 gal but what would be the best noob flowerhorn for me and is there any different car than oher larger cichlids? thanks
:D

nope not really same as careing for a midas or vieja or any other CA.
i would recommend a zz red dragon.

i think you should start at 4 inches and grow them so you can learn more of it and choosing it you should chose from its actively and the movement of it and the colorations thats how i got my first one (:

i am geting a zz red dragon i love the way they look and i went to the LFS and got to see the managers zz RD i am sold on one LOL now i just have to find out a reputable vendor .....

If you want something good looking than buy a ZZ at 4"+. However, I would suggest you raise a fry from 1" to full grown and watch as it grows. Its pretty interesting.

you could start with a trimac it pretty much the main fish that gave the flowerhorn it features

if its going to be your only flowerhorn, get something around 4 inches, at this size color should show and the kok/hump should be evident. Smaller ones are a gamble and a waste of time and resources if it does not come out nice.
