In search of Leiarius
I would like a book/or website recommendation on Boa constrictor constrictor.

Also good DIY setup recommendations. I want to learn as much as possible before getting such a snake.

Thank You

Thanks Chloe for your time. You sound like a great mom. I bet your kid will have more reptiles than you when older.

haha, shes not really interested in them. she is for a moment but then forgets about them and just wonders off lol.

riiiight, so bearing in mind they get big lol you will need a 6x2x2-8x2x2 (anywhere inbetween is good) for when they are adult.
males - 6-8ft is what they say but my friend had a 9.5ft male.
females - 8-10ft...same friend also has a 105ft female lol

can start off as i said above, temps u will have to check, because i set all mine to stats and then leave it.
but in a rubbermaid box, 2 hides 1 at warm end, 1 at cool.
put box on heat mat. add water bowl. substrate of ur choice and hey presto...finito.
tbh i use newspaper and/or kitchen towel as a substrate. cheap/free. easy to clean.
when they r in shed then pop some moss or damp tissue in warm hide to add humidity and skin should come off nicely.
depends what size u get it at, food size varies. but as a rule they can have up to a wisth and a half of the widest point of their body...although with my smaller ones i generally just go with the width.
frozen food is best and especially rats. 1 rat has the nutritional value of 6 mice. so try and get on to rats as soon as poss.
IF u do live (please dont lol) then always watch! rats have veen known to kill snakes if left with them.

i think thats pretty much it.

i learnt from forums and other keepers and constantly checking caresheets etc.
dont know of any decent book or sites lovely. you will prob b better off asking on here and just reading all the caresheets u can purely because there is a lot of conflicting info out there.
and u will always end up asking on here if something u read is right lol which is good. can never ask too many questions.

ok i think im rattleing on now.

Thanks so much Chloe for the perfect advice.
