So, I've got a pretty good some of money and have been looking to into getting a nice lizard or monitor. I'm not too sure if I could go the monitor route as I have about $350 to spend on enclosure, supplies, and animal.
I was thinking of possibly getting a nice bearded dragon?

I'm also open to snakes as well, and I am leaning towards a nice juvi BP, possibily a coloubrid.

Any recommendations would be great.

I'd go for the beardie as a beginner :]
They're pretty nice, monitors can get pretty expensive to care for properly, although imo they are the some of the most entertaining and beautiful animals you can own. I don't know much about snakes so I can't really make any recommendations about them

I had thought about getting an Ackie Monitor, or a Tegu but In reality I dont think I have enough space for either of them.
I do know I have room for an enclosure to house a beardie, and the local exotics shop always has baby beardies.

If you can get an enclosure of like 3x2x2 I'd say that'd be a good size for an ackie, I'd want to go 4x2x2 though.
A tegu will need more space than that.
If you can afford the ackies I'd say go for them.
You aren't really looking for a cuddly animal or anything right?

I've got enough cuddly animals right now, and might be taking care of a friends sugar gliders for a while.

I know for a tegu I'd want something a long the lines of 8'x4'x4' for an adult... Which I do not have the room for.

I'm also looking at smaller snakes like African House snakes, Sand Boas, stuff like that.

id say bearded
u can get everything you need for about 320 bucks including a 40g breeder bearded substrate vitamins calcium all the works plus a bit more for this price
(i priced it for my buddy)

beardie ftw, to this day my favorite reptile, besides alligator snappers

Varanus salvator :nilly:

I think it's quite cheap (in my country) and easy to keep :)

and i dont suggest tree monitors :nilly:

thats a horrible suggestion and if youre trying to be a smart arse about it its even worse becuase now youre just derailing the original thread owenrs thread. Hes being pretty serious as hes looking for help on his choice.

Attackfish: You can get the ackie if you want and still have enough for the enclosure, a larger rubbermaid tub at homedepot doesnt cost more that 30 bucks with the lights and sand shouldnt be more that 50. That will be fine until you can build it an enclosure, its absolutley much better than using a fish tank as suggested here by other people, since the ackie wont have any humidity because of the mesh top. You can cut out some of the top of the rubbermaid and put a piece of acrlylic on top to view the ackie.

good luck
