Hi everyone......

I am new to the world of monster fishkeeping and would like some advice on startng up.
I currently have a 55g tank and have decided to go for some not so monster fish such as a couple of Rainbow Snakeheads and a couple of Oscars in order to get use to keeping predators.

Does this sound like a sensible starting point or can anyone suggest other types of fish to start of with?

Thanks

Liam

No to Oscars, not even 1 can live in a 55 for life minimum would be a 75 gallon. Rainbow Snake heads size wise would work with a couple, however I've never kept em and don't know much about em.

just to let you know with a group of rainbows they tend to get into a pack and will actually take other fish out together... i have 5 rainbows in my tank and the best thing i can keep with them is a golden nugget plecko and thats cause hes an ass himself and luckily has a shell, also with the waste and nitrates and bacterias that the rainbow produce in the tank are very high... higher then that of some other predators so ensure very good water quality weekly water changes, with the oscars i find that they get infections easily and prolly not suited to be with snakeheads

Sorry to be stalking you liam lol but in your 55 a few polypterus would be a good start for predators,or whatever those small species of snakeheads are,I think if you could go a little bigger with the tank it would give you better.. options.

lol thanks again steve....yea i'm just looking for a good starting point but its hard with only 55g. Dats are the dream but I would prefer to have something else if it means that they would be more suitable for my tank.......i think i need to go to somewhere like Wharf and have a good look at whats avaliable but like i said to you before i dont mind upgrading the tank when needed......thnaks again

If you got some 3" dats they would be ok for a while as they are slow growers but you would need to upgrade in a year id say and eventually at least a 180 is say for 3 adult tigers if they grow like my big IT did lol.
Have you only room for the 55g and what are the dimensions, also a trip to wharf is always a good experience,if a little expensive lol,I always end up spending a fortune!

my dimensions are 101x41x50cm. I dont want to get a bigger tank until I've gained a bit more experience but I think I might get a better ideas of what want when I've seen whats avaliable to me...........I think i'm just a bit dat obsessed lol
