Can someone please tale the liberty and respond why you can't keep let's say an Oscar and a flowerhorn in a 55 gallon tank. Please list all the reasons why you can't have an Oscar plus another good sized SA/CA cichlid. I have tried to explain it to my brother and father, but my father is a firm believer of fish grow to the size of their tank. (He is very oldschool). And I have a flowerhorn In their. They are determined an Oscar will work in there. Can someone else take the liberty to explain since they believe I'm just blowing steam saying you can't.

And if they do in fact bring home an Oscar, I will rehome my flowerhorn I won't even try its just a FYI

I haven't personally kept either but I've done more than enough research. Fish can be stunted by the size of the tank (along with other factors), but to say they grow to the size of the tank is flat wrong. To that point there have even been resent threads here talking about the minimum tank size for a single O and the consensus was that 75 is the bare minimum while a 125 was the preferable minimum. That said there's also the Agression miss match. Like I said I haven't kept either personally but I feel like a FH would be far more aggressive than the O.

I am not a fan of under-stocking (always want more fish) as I feel some people here are, so I understand the desire to have more than just the FH. But as I sit here staring at my own 55 it's easy to see how a fully grown FH and a full grown O Would not fit in this tank even length wise.

You are right! If they do throw an Oscar in with your flower horn the flower horn will most likely kill it.
The general consensus is that although the body stops growing the organs continue to grow slowly killing the fish.
And yea a 55 is to small to even try.

I talked them out of it I haven't been to fond of my Flowerhorn but they were set on getting a fish so I talked them into a fire mouth and convict. Flowerhorn isn't aggressive but I'm going to probably put an ad up for him soon. I already have a 75 for a wet pet in my room XD that's where my RTM is and I love him

Convict and fire mouth should be very happy in the 55. RTM is on my wish list =P

I haven't had the chance to take many pics of my RTM but here it is on the way home! Quite a firey attitude as well! Haven't had a parachromis this size already flaring and trying to fight everything around
