I have purchased a 90 gallon aquaium and wanted to make it a planted tank. I am going for a dirted tank with tahatian moon sand over top. I also have a large peice of driftwood that I will cut and prop up in the corner so it's sort of like a cave. But I need some beginner plants! I plan on putting java ferns on the driftwood but other than that I'm lost. I want some sort of grass type of thing to put around the driftwood. I also need a good taller plant to put in the back. For other decoration shoud I use small peices of driftwood or get some sort if river rock? Any ideas/suggesions would help! Thanks!

I guess it will also depend a little bit on what you want to stock in the tank...

For example, if you want to keep certain types of Shrimp, then certain rocks are actually better than others with the way they effect water parameters etc...

It will also depend on if you're planning on going Hi-tech, or keeping it low tech?

If low tech, then plants like Anubias, Java Fern and some of the mosses are a good start... if you went high-tech, then you can pretty much grow anything...

Also, as a note, if you use dirt as a base, and then place sand ontop, you may end up with some of the sand getting mixed into the dirt as time passes, especially when moving plants around etc...

You can go with Amazon Swords, Water Wisteria, Vallisneria, Anacharis, Hornwort, Anubias, and Dwarf Hair Grass? :)
